About Us
We are Chontelle and Darren and we currently reside on Auckland’s North Shore. For now our alpacas reside at Thief of Hearts Alpaca Stud in the Manawatu where Chontelle is from. Thief of Hearts is owned and operated by Chontelle’s parents and the entire Aotearoa Alpacas herd agists here under the exceptional care and management of Eric and Gaye. Chontelle moved from the Manawatu to Auckland in early 2006 and works full time as a Business Systems Analyst. Darren hails from England, and is a full time Software Developer.
Both Chontelle and Darren designed and developed this website, and have since started working on similar projects for family and friends. We now offer this as a service. See our website page here: 'Website Design'
As we grow our herd we have little intention to have animals for sale in the short term, apart from the occasional wether. Our breeding focus is on a fleece industry with the intention of breeding consistently finer fleeced animals with good conformation and vigour.
Our initial focus has been on breeding Huacaya, but we have just started crossing to Suri Alpacas in our breeding program now and may supplement this part of our herd with purchases in the future.
With Chontelle being the daughter of the owners of one of the largest Alpaca Stud’s in New Zealand she has been very fortunate to learn from a well established and very knowledgeable teacher, namely Eric. This has also opened many doors and provided many opportunities to in turn learn from some of the world’s most notable Alpaca experts. The most valuable thing that Aotearoa Alpacas will take from our relationship with Thief of Hearts Alpaca Stud is the continuing quest for knowledge to better improve our understanding of all things alpaca and to use this knowledge to improve the quality of our stock.
