So what is a Tui?
I am a native bird of New Zealand. Our name "Tui" comes from the Maori language. My whanau, or family are honeyeaters and we particularly love to eat the honey or necter from New Zealand Flax. It is ka pai, which means good. We also eat fruit and insects and occasionally pollen and seeds. This yellow stuff on my beak is pollen.
So what am I doing on an alpaca website?
My whanau and I live in the bush next to an alpaca farm. Thats where we met Macka. Macka tells me he is also a Tui, which makes me laugh, because come on, just look at him, all fleece and no feathers. Not to mention he can't speak english! Because i'm really smart I was able to understand his humming and clicks after a while. Us Tui's can talk and sing and even imitate you humans. We have two vocal boxes and some of our sounds even you humans can't hear.
I've posted here a couple of videos from youtube of my cousins singing:
This link is to my friend Woof Woof who lives up north, if you go to his web page you can watch him talking.
